Pieces of Grace

I am sure that we all have things in our home that have extra special meaning to us. Things that have sentimental value and items we really couldn't put a price on. I would like to share just a few of those things with you today.

I was named after my great-grandmother, Grace, and even though I really didn't get to know her...she passed away when I was just a young child...I have always felt a special connection to her through our shared name, which I just love. We share many things in common---she loved poetry, horses, collecting things of personal interest in scrapbooks...I own one of her rodeo scrapbooks, full of old vintage rodeo postcards and rodeo programs.

In the last year or so I have tried to use things from the past in my current decorating scheme. Here are some of the "Pieces of Grace" that I have from my lovely great grandmother...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
...I had been holing on to some lovely white vintage buttons, stored in an old pill bottle from my name-sake, and I didn't know what to use them for until I made over my bed...
...they were just the perfect accent for one of my blue pillows, and I just love the special meaning that this pillow has...it is more than a decorative accent...it has ties to the past...ties to my family...it's a piece of Grace.
Another treasure from my great-grandmother are the recipe cards that I have tucked into the tall glass jar. I love that I can see her handwriting...which is really lovely...and I enjoy reading through the recipes and knowing what she used to cook. These are priceless to me.
Thanks for stopping by Ruby Moon Designs, and for indulging me as I shared some mementos from my sweet great-grandma Grace.
*Love you, Gammy!*
  1. That's neat that you were able to use Gammy's buttons on your pillows. :) That's really special. I think the thing I think of most when it relates to you & Gammy is the poem "My Tiny Grace". What treasures you have...
    Love you,
    Gail
  2. You are very creative in using the old buttons on your pillow. They look really nice there. Some of my most memorable memories were of my grandmother on my mother's side. She was a very special lady in my life. Worldly things can be taken from us, memories will always be there.
  4. Family momentos are so special, and your pillows turned out really cute.
    My 3yr old granddaughter's middle name is Grace, and she loves it too. She always corrects her older sister when she calls her by just her 1st name!
Thanks for visiting SuKnitWitty today. Your blog is very inviting and I enjoyed browsing your projects and seeing your jewelry. I have an EMPTY ETSY store....I'm inspired to get it going again. Good Luck with yours....Sue
  12. Hello Grace, your Grandma's treasures are wonderful to have. The pillows are beautiful and the buttons are so pretty. I have some of my mom's recipes and in her handwriting. I LOVE the meaning of those recipes. She even added her own comments like 'delicious' etc. Treasures for sure. I love the vignette surrounding the recipe jar.
  18. I know what you mean about the recipes. I kept trying to get my mom to copy her recipes for me, because I wanted them in her handwriting. When she got a computer, she sat and typed them all out for me.
    I'm glad to have them, but I think she missed the point.
    You have some wonderful treasures.
    Thanks for visiting my blog.
